Mission Flats Landfill

Closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Payment: Cash, credit and debit.

The City landfill that is open seven days a week, and the one that takes asbestos (by appointment, booked 24 hours ahead).
Household garbage is $90 a tonne, with a $10 minimum for loads up to 60 kg (2026 rates).
Surcharges: $10 per couch or other bulky furniture item, $20 per residential mattress or box spring.
Mixed demolition and construction waste is $250 a tonne. Mixed loads are charged at the highest rate that applies.
Free recycling on site includes scrap metal, major appliances, electronics, batteries, cardboard and residential paint.

Closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The yard waste site closes December 1 to March 1.

Payment: Cash only.

Priced by the load, not the tonne: a full car or SUV load is $20, a full pickup load is $30 (2026 rates).
Construction waste costs more: add 20% if it is sorted, double the rate if it is mixed.
Does not take materials that may contain asbestos. Those go to Mission Flats.

Takes grass clippings, garden waste, and tree prunings and trunks up to 24 inches across (anything larger must be split).
Sod and dirt are not accepted at the yard waste sites; the City landfills take them at $20 a tonne (2026 rates).
Noxious weeds and invasive plants should be bagged and go in the garbage or to the landfill instead.
Sells finished compost: $25 a loaded tractor bucket (about 500 kg), $5 for a garbage can or bin you fill yourself.

Bunker Road Recycling Depot and Yard Waste Site

The yard waste site closes every year from December 1 to March 1.

Payment: Not stated on the City page; check before you go.

Takes grass clippings, garden waste and tree prunings up to 24 inches across.
Sod and dirt are not accepted at the yard waste sites; the City landfills take them at $20 a tonne (2026 rates).
The recycling depot takes boxboard, cardboard, metal cans, mixed paper, newspaper and plastic containers. No glass or flexible plastics: those go to a Recycle BC depot.

What the TNRD eco-depots charge

Heffley Creek, Louis Creek, South Thompson, Lower Nicola and Logan Lake list the same fees. Sun Peaks lists its own rates. The City of Kamloops sets its own rates too, shown on each Kamloops landfill above.

Before you load the truck

Sort as you load. Scrap metal, large appliances and electronics are free to recycle at Mission Flats and the TNRD eco-depots, and Mission Flats charges a mixed load at its highest applicable rate.
Keep construction waste apart from household garbage. Mixed construction waste costs well over twice the household garbage rate at every site that lists both.
Tarp and tie the load down before you drive.
Check the payment before you go. Barnhartvale is cash only, and the TNRD sites take no cash at all.

Kamloops dump questions

Which Kamloops dump is open on a Tuesday?

Mission Flats Landfill, which is open every day from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Barnhartvale is closed Tuesday to Thursday.

Can I pay cash at the dump?

At Mission Flats, yes, and Barnhartvale takes cash only. The TNRD eco-depots do not take cash: bring a card or a TNRD Eco-Card, and Sun Peaks takes the Eco-Card only.

How much does it cost to dump a mattress in Kamloops?

At Mission Flats a residential mattress or box spring is a $20 surcharge each. The TNRD eco-depots also charge $20 each for residential mattresses. Those are 2026 rates.

Where do I take yard waste in Kamloops?

The City runs two yard waste sites: Cinnamon Ridge at 4045 Tranquille Road, open every day, and Bunker Road at 1455 Bunker Road, open every day from 10 am to 6 pm but closed December 1 to March 1. Both take grass, garden waste and prunings up to 24 inches across. Neither takes sod or dirt; the City landfills take those at $20 a tonne.

Where do I take asbestos?

Mission Flats Landfill, by appointment made at least 24 hours ahead. Barnhartvale does not accept materials that may contain asbestos.

What changes at the Sun Peaks Transfer Station?

From December 1, 2026, the TNRD limits it to passenger vehicles with up to six bags a day. The TNRD points larger loads to Heffley Creek Eco-Depot or a private hauler.

Would it be cheaper to have someone else take it?
