What the job actually involves

An old appliance is heavy, awkward and often still hooked up. A fridge or a deep freeze also holds refrigerant, which is why it cannot go in a bin or out with the household garbage. We carry it out and it goes to a depot that recovers the refrigerant. The City of Kamloops recycles major appliances and Freon appliances at no charge, which is one reason an appliance load is lighter on the scale than it looks.

Washers, dryers, stoves and dishwashers are scrap metal at the end, and scrap metal is free to drop at both the City landfill and the TNRD eco-depots. What you are paying for is the disconnect, the carry and the trip, and you get that number before we start.

What we take

  • Fridges, freezers and deep freezes
  • Washers and dryers
  • Stoves, ranges and wall ovens
  • Dishwashers
  • Microwaves and small appliances

Before we arrive

  • Empty it, and defrost a fridge or freezer if you can
  • A gas stove or dryer needs a licensed gas fitter to disconnect and cap it first
  • Tell us if it is on an upper floor or in a basement
  • Clear the path to the door

Fridge and deep freeze removal

Refrigerant is the reason a fridge is not a normal piece of junk. Residential fridges and freezers are accepted for recycling at Mission Flats Landfill and the TNRD eco-depots at no charge, and that is where they go, not into a bin. Yours does not need to be working, but please clear out the food.

Junk removal reviews from Kamloops customers

★★★★★

11/10 would recommend Joseph and his team for junk and appliance removal in the Kamloops area!! Easy to communicate with, super affordable, lightning quick and painless service. We had a giant, heavy, junk appliance that we inherited with a building and needed it out on short notice to begin renovations. I called Lightning Rubbish Removal and they came the same day to walkthrough and give an estimate (which was less than half of what I expected to pay!) and then they scheduled the removal for 1 day later first thing in the morning! I've never had anyone be on time for a pickup or delivery and Joseph was even 15 minutes early and was gone within half an hour with the job done perfectly!! Thank you for taking such a weight off my shoulders!!!

I would highly recommend using Lightning Rubbish Removal. He was well priced, very punctual, friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to help me remove an appliance. I would not hesitate to call again if I needed to haul or remove anything. I will let everyone know about this business. It is nice to know that there are still businesses out there like Lightning that really care about helping people.

Appliance removal questions

Can a fridge go in a bin?

No. Fridges and freezers hold refrigerant and have to go to a depot that recovers it. Keep it out of the bin and ask us when you book.

Does the appliance need to work?

No. Working or not, it goes to the same place. If it does still work, tell us: a working appliance can often be donated instead.

Do you disconnect it?

We unplug and pull out an electric appliance and disconnect the water lines on a washer or a dishwasher. A gas stove or dryer must be disconnected and capped by a licensed gas fitter before we arrive; we will not touch a gas line.

Do I have to defrost the freezer?

It helps, and a defrosted freezer is lighter and cleaner to carry, but it is not required. Empty the food out and tell us if it is still frozen so we can plan for the drip.

Will you take the old dishwasher when the new one arrives?

Yes. A disconnected dishwasher sitting in the kitchen is exactly the kind of single item we pick up. Tell us the delivery day and we will work around it.

How much does appliance removal cost in Kamloops?

It depends on what it is, where it is in the house and how many there are. Call or text 250-682-6262 with a photo and we will give you a free estimate on the spot.
