What the job actually involves
A hot tub is not a couch. The shell is fibreglass bonded to a block of closed-cell foam, wrapped in a cabinet, sitting on a pad, wired to its own breaker and often boxed in by a deck or a fence built after the tub went in.
That is why the answer is almost never "two people and a truck". We drain it, disconnect it at the isolation point, strip the cabinet, and cut the shell into sections that fit through a normal gate. Then it goes out in pieces and nothing gets taken apart that did not need to be.

Also worth taking
Most hot tub jobs come with a deck tear-off, an old shed, or a pile of yard waste that has been living behind it. It is cheaper to send it all on the same visit than to book a second trip.

Hot tub removal questions
Do I need to drain the hot tub first?
It helps, and it saves time on the day, but it is not required. If it is still full tell us when you book so we can allow for draining and for where the water goes.
Do you disconnect the power?
A hot tub is usually on a dedicated breaker. Have the power isolated at the panel before we arrive, or tell us and we will talk through what needs an electrician. We will not cut a live line.
What about the cover, the steps and the surround?
They go too. Covers, lifters, steps, skirting and the decking immediately around the tub all leave with the shell unless you want them kept.
How do you get it out of a fenced back yard?
Most shells are cut down on site into sections that fit through a standard gate, so the fence stays up. Send a photo of the access when you book and we will tell you what the plan is before we arrive.
Can a hot tub go in a bin instead?
Yes, if you are prepared to cut it down yourself. Most people would rather not: the shell is fibreglass over foam and it is heavy, awkward work. Full service is usually the better call on a hot tub.
